Latest Construction Updates

  • Josie Robertson Plaza: Direct pedestrian access between the corner of 62nd St. and Columbus Ave. and the Plaza has been restored, providing an additional wheelchair compatible approach.
  • Work has begun to remove the temporary concrete walkway running from the Koch Theater Portico to the Avery Fisher Hall Portico and replace it with finished stone.
  • Concourse: A new stair has opened providing direct connection between the lower concourse and the vestibule across from the central concourse by the Met Opera. The stair can be accessed from the garage Red Section and the sidewalk adjacent to the lower concourse Garage Manager’s Office.
  • Vehicles can now enter the concourse system at 64th St. and Amsterdam, and exit with a southbound turn that comes out on 62nd St between Amsterdam and Columbus. This route enables patron drop-off at the lower level lobbies of Avery Fisher Hall and the Met.

Ongoing Activity:

  • The Juilliard Bookstore is temporarily located in a trailer on West 66th St. between Broadway and Amsterdam.

Parking Garage and Concourse

New Activity:

  • The concourse entrance to the Metropolitan Opera has re-opened.
  • Restrooms have re-opened on the concourse level by the entrance to the Metropolitan Opera .

Ongoing Activity:

  • Entry to the underground concourse from the 66 th St. subway station remains closed. It is scheduled to re-open in spring 2010.
  • The 65th St. pedestrian entrance to the concourse level is closed. Pedestrian access to the concourse is available from 64th St. and Amsterdam, as well as from the lobby stairs of the Metropolitan opera, Avery Fisher hall, and Lincoln Center Theater, and on W. 62nd St. between Columbus and Amsterdam Aves.
  • The Lincoln Center Theater stage door/administrative offices entrance remains located just past the glass walls of the Theater lobby on the concourse level.
  • The stairway under the David H. Koch Theater portico is closed.
  • Pedestrian access between the concourse level and the lower garage level remains via the escalator and stair adjacent to the Met Opera entrance on the concourse.

Promenade and Josie Robertson Plaza Construction

Ongoing Activity:

  • A pair of glass-covered ramps now lead to the arcades of Avery Fisher Hall and the David H. Koch Theater, providing wheelchair access from Columbus Avenue to the Plaza and weather protection
  • The entrance to the downtown subway station on Columbus Avenue at 64th St. remains closed. It is scheduled to re-open in spring 2010. Downtown subway access is still available at 66th St. and Broadway.
  • The Charles B. Benenson Grove, a new micro-park at 62nd St. and Columbus across from the David Rubenstein Atrium, is open to the public. The 3,500 square-foot space offers stone benches for seating and four different types of trees have been planted to bloom in the spring.
  • The modernized Revson Fountain is open with new water show displays .
